Who:  YOU! Open to all trombone, trumpet and clarinet players from beginning to Senior Citizens.

What: A Music “Club” where you meet with fellow musicians for fun and fellowship while learning!

Where: Saied Music South (71st and Mingo)

When: Six weekly sessions May 31st – July 19th Thursdays 6 pm – 7 pm

Why: The goal for the club is to provide a positive experience for attendees while they are learning more about their instrument. It is open for all instrumentalists from beginning players to senior citizens. Our desire is that school-age students will continue learning and playing their instrument through the summer months, individuals that would like to learn a secondary instrument can have that opportunity, and adults who may have played an instrument in the past might pull their instrument out of the closet and re-kindle the joy that is achieved through participation in music.

Cost: $ 75.00 includes 6 1-hour sessions (attendance at all meetings is not required)

Facilitator:

Christy Andrews, principal clarinet of the Tulsa Signature Symphony and ORU clarinet instructor will be facilitating the clarinet class.

Jeremy Parker, head band director for Bixby Public Schools, founding member of Tulsa Spotlight Brass, and member of the Tulsa Starlight Band & Big Band will be facilitating the trombone class.

Dr. Stephen Goforth, principal trumpet of the Tulsa Signature Symphony and Starlight Band, also former member of the Dallas Brass and former principal trumpet player for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic will be facilitating the trumpet class.

Details: The participant makeup of each class will be used as a means to determine the curriculum and direction for that particular class. The sessions will include master classes on accepted practice for playing with good tone and proper technique, the history and evolution of the instrument, ensemble playing (as instrumentation permits), instrument care and maintenance, and other important topics related to the particular instrument.

Dennis Alexander

Dennis Alexander began his affiliation with Alfred Music Publishing in 1986. Mr., Alexander’s over 400 publications and recordings created with Alfred have earned him an international reputation as one of the world’s most prolific and popular composers of educational piano music for students at all levels. Professor Alexander retired from his position at the University of Montana in May 1996 where he taught piano pedagogy for 24 years. Upon moving to California, he taught privately in addition to serving on the faculties of Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge. He currently lives in Albuquerque, NM where he maintains an active composing and touring schedule for Alfred Music Publishing. Professor Alexander is a native Kansan, having graduated from the University of Kansas where he was a student of Richard Reber. In 1972, he was invited to join the faculty at the University of Montana and served as piano department chair in addition to his teaching duties in applied piano, class piano, and piano pedagogy. In 1987, he made his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall with violinist Walter Olivares and continues to be active as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. He has served as a collaborative artist for numerous internationally recognized soloists, instrumentalists, and chamber groups. A former president of the Montana State Music Teachers Association, he is a popular clinician at state and national music teachers conventions. In 2009, he was invited to MTNA to conduct the intermediate level master class at their national convention in Atlanta. In 2014, Professor Alexander was invited to judge a national piano competition in India called “MusiQuest” and has toured twice to the far East where he performed recitals and workshops in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia and South Korea. Over the years, numerous organizations and state associations have commissioned him to write compositions. His “Concertante in G Major” was commissioned by the Montana Music Teachers organization for the state convention, and his 2-piano work, “Fanfare Toccata Rondo” was commissioned by Goshen College. Many of his compositions are included in the National Federation of Music Study Clubs Festival required list and his music is being performed by students throughout the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Asia, and Europe. One of Mr. Alexander’s most significant contributions to the repertoire is “24 Character Preludes” in all major and minor keys which includes a CD with Dennis Alexander as a soloist. He is also a co-author of an exciting and innovative piano method entitled “Alfred’s Premier Piano Course.” MTNA commissioned him to compose a chamber music work for piano, violin, and cello entitled “Dance Suite” and this work was premiered at the 2013 national conference in Anaheim, California. In the summer of 2015, he was awarded a “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy in recognition of his extraordinary service to the music teaching profession. Mr. Alexander’s personal website, www.DennisAlexander.com, has become a favorite with piano teachers and features recordings, videos, teaching tips, and much more!

Ten Reasons that Leaders Play Steinway Pianos http://www.saiedmusic.com/ten-reasons-leaders-play-steinway-pianos/ Tue, 27 Feb 2018 22:39:47 +0000 http://www.saiedmusic.com/?p=10746 The post Ten Reasons that Leaders Play Steinway Pianos appeared first on Saied Music Company.

Growing research is demonstrating that many qualities commonly found in successful leaders are those same qualities that research finds result from playing the piano.

1. Leaders look for ways to stay healthy and productive

Playing piano reduces cardiac complications, increases memory, enhances immune response and delays the onset of Alzheimer’s.  It also increases human growth hormone in adults, which slows the effects of aging.

2. Leaders look for ways to maximize their investments

History shows that Steinway pianos actually appreciate in value over time making the purchase of a Steinway piano a sound financial investment.  Reuters reports that “A 10-year-old Steinway in good condition, usually sells for about 75 percent of the current retail price, which goes up about 4 percent each year”

3. Leaders want to leave a legacy

Steinway pianos are an heirloom legacy for future generations, built to last one hundred years.  This is a piano that leaders know their heirs will treasure.

4. Leaders are always sharpening their saw

Good leaders are always searching for ways to improve their capabilities.  Research shows that playing piano grows new neural connections in the brain, creating greater capacity for brain function.

5. Leaders are always sharpening their saw

Good leaders are always searching for ways to improve their capabilities.  Research shows that playing piano grows new neural connections in the brain, creating greater capacity for brain function.

6. Leaders prioritize stress reduction

Playing piano reduces blood pressure and reduces the stress hormone cortisol.  Those who play experience less anxiety, loneliness and depression.

7. Leaders are creative problem solvers

Research shows that piano players use a creative technique called divergent thinking.  Their combined use of both hands with reading music and listening while playing demands that the player use both sides of the brain, simultaneously.  One of the results of Divergent Thinking is the ability to creatively solve problems using outside-of-the-box solutions.

8. Leaders want the world to know their standard for excellence

Owning a Steinway piano is a bold statement to others, saying, “I expect and demand the best, so you can be assured that I will deliver only the finest.”  Owning the finest is a value statement creating the expectation in others that the leader will expect the finest from others and will produce the finest.

9. Leaders are disciplined

Leaders recognize the discipline and craftsmanship evidenced in every hand-crafted Steinway piano.  Playing piano cultivates patience and self-discipline, both qualities of leaders.

10. Leaders know the importance of recreation

Leaders make time for recreation, knowing that it recharges them and keeps them fresh and motivated.  Playing a Steinway piano gives leaders the maximum responsiveness multiplying the satisfaction and pleasure of playing.
